Critiques
In this case, I felt that it really lacked impact, despite the well done post-processing for a few reasons. I'll explain them and try to give the best solutions to be as fair as possible.
It wasn't too bad a scene to start with actually, but being an insane 'visionary' I always picture landscapes to be.. well.. in landscape format. That way you can get to see more of what your background holds as a backdrop for this foreground 'jetty'. Open up, back up a little, slide this to a horizontal view and keep the rule of thirds intact, and I might add that it would be an awesome shot with an awesome backdrop to boot.
The little details also ended up distracting my eyes, like the 'lagoon barricades' and the orange warning pole at the left. Were there more poles such as that? If there were, the horizontal plane would have set it pretty well as a line for my eyes to draw while staring across. Having just one would be in the way too.
Some pictures, will require us to go up close, and some to back up, think, compose and then shoot. This is one situation where the latter would apply I guess. Otherwise it would appear mediocre and snap-shottish.
Having said that, I will not declare that I condemn point and shoots. I am quite confident that even point and shoots can produce incredible shots.
